In this Nationwide Event Series, Pathways To Inclusive Innovation, Pro Bono Advisory Council (PBAC) is hosting an important conversation with Federal and Private Sector experts on how under-resourced innovators can leverage the USPTO’s Patent Bono Program, that has enabled over $39.3 million donated in free legal services to inventors and small businesses to bring their ideas and products to market. In the event sessions, attendees gain insights from thought leaders in IP law, Federal Technology Transfer Offices, Venture Capital, Banking, and Start Up-Business Operations.   • The Pathways panel discussion led by PBAC follows the USPTO-hosted sessions and serves as a transition from detailed overviews of patents and trademarks to how these concepts are incorporated into the broader process of innovation, entrepreneurship and business development. The panel consists of a diverse group of leaders from across sectors who can speak to all aspects of patenting and trademarking, IP, commercialization, as well as building, scaling and sustaining healthy businesses. The panel provides legal best practices, professional and personal experiences and resources available, and is targeted at anyone pursuing patents or trademarks, entrepreneurs, innovators and everyday dreamers and aims to present insights in a grounded and relational way.

  • The second panel discussion zeros in on leveraging your IP assets and keys to successfully monetize your IP through licensing. An experienced and diverse group of business leaders will discuss how licensing can work into your plans to further your invention and help understand the licensing process, resources you can access, and avenues available to interested entrepreneurs.

  • This session provides guidance on new NIL rules passed by the NCAA in 2021, allowing college athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness for the first time.Participants will learn the basics of the rule, as well as best practices for avoiding bad deals and building an effective brand.

  • One of the US government and academia’s best kept secrets is the availability of patents to entrepreneurs - the opportunity to license an existing invention and commercialize it to meet some of today’s greatest challenges. In this session, we discuss how technology transfer offices work, the opportunities available to entrepreneurs, and the steps required to license and commercialize a federal technology.

  • Bank loans and bootstrapping are only some of the funding options available to entrepreneurs and innovators. This session breaks down some of the other ways innovators have funded their enterprises, including venture capital and other types of equity financing, government grants and non-dilutive capital opportunities and angel investment/micro-lending.

  • Women are playing an increasingly large and important role as leaders. This session introduces a panel of female entrepreneurs to speak to the experience of leading a startup as a woman in a male-dominated industry.
